Lessons From an Apple Tree

I recently posted a video on Instagram that seemed to have grabbed the attention of many (you can check it out @growyourgame_), so I wanted to write about it here as well.
I have apple trees in my yard, which means every year I have to prune them. Apple trees grow these branches called "suckers", and honestly these suckers have no point other than trying to steal all of the nutrients away from the rest of the tree that is dedicated to producing the fruit. So in order for me to have apples on my tree come August and September, I have to prune the suckers now.
Last year when I was pruning I realized something profound. These apple trees were actually teaching me a lesson. Much like the apple tree, we have "suckers" all around us trying to take away our precious resources. Sometimes we allow these suckers to continue to grow, and it completely drains us, leaving us empty and unfulfilled. But sometimes, we have to take it upon ourselves to cut these suckers away so that we can continue to grow and flourish.
So right now I want you to think, what has not been serving you in your life? How can you begin to cut those things away and put more focus on your personal growth?
It's time to prune away those suckers in your own life, so you can focus on YOU. |
